What is UP?
UP™ by Jawbone® is the combination of a wristband and iPhone® app that tracks your activity and sleep and inspires you to move more, sleep better and eat smarter.
Who is it for?
UP is for anyone interested in living a healthier lifestyle and tracking their movement, sleep and/or meals. Please note that you'll need a supported device to use the band and app.
Will it work with my phone or tablet?
UP by Jawbone is currently available on the following devices running iOS 4.1 and greater:
  • iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S
  • iPad and iPad 2
  • iPod Touch 4th Generation and newer (GPS functions in the app will be limited)
Who can see my data?
The default setting is for all user data to be private. Users can choose to share information with individuals, groups or teams, and/or publicly. If a user shares a piece of information outside the UP application, that information is subject to the privacy policies of the service upon which it is shared. Please note that your name and profile image are publicly searchable in the UP directory.
What control do I have over the information I share?
You have complete control over what information you share using the privacy settings within the UP by Jawbone app.

Wristband

What does the UP band track?
The UP band has a built-in precision motion sensor that automatically tracks your movement (steps, distance, calories burned, pace, intensity level and active vs inactive time ) and sleep (hours slept, time to fall asleep, light vs. deep sleep and sleep quality).
How does it track sleep?
The UP band's built-in motion sensor detects micro movements while you sleep and uses sophisticated algorithms to generate personal sleep phase graphs.
Do I need the UP by Jawbone app to use the UP band?
Yes. UP by Jawbone is a system. The band won't work without the app and the app won't work without the band.
How does the UP band work with the app?
Your band collects data 24/7. To view your activity and sleep data and change settings on your UP band, you need to sync your band with the app. The band has a concealed 3.5mm jack that plugs into the headphone port of your compatible device.
How do I know my band size?
Download the sizing guide here and follow the instructions. You may also use the UP wrist sizer on the back flap of the UP retail packaging. If you're between two sizes, we recommend choosing the larger size. The actual UP wristband should fit comfortably around your wrist.
What is the UP band made of?
The UP band is made of a spring steel frame encased in durable, sweat-proof, water-resistant, hypoallergenic rubber.
Is the UP band water-resistant?
Yes, up to 1m. You can wear the band 24/7, which means you can wear it while working out and even while showering.
How long does the battery last?
Up to 10 days on a full charge.

Which devices will the UP by Jawbone app work with?
It's currently available for following devices running iOS 4.1 and greater:

  • iPod Touch 4th Generation and newer (GPS functions in the app may be limited)
How much does the app cost?
Nothing. It's free. But you'll need an UP band to use it.
Does the app offer GPS tracking?
Yes, you can create GPS route maps by starting a GPS workout within the app and taking your phone with you during your workout. The step data collected from your band during this time will automatically be combined with your GPS workout to provide you with a complete view of your workout.
How does the Smart Alarm work?
You can use the app to program your band to vibrate on your wrist and silently wake you up. Within 30 minutes of your desired wake up time, the band will intelligently interpret your sleep graph identify the best moment in your natural sleep cycle so that you feel as refreshed as possible. For example, if you were to set your wake up alarm for 7:30am, the band would vibrate at the best time between 7:00am and 7:30am based on your sleep cycle.
How do Activity Reminders work?
You can use the app to program your band to vibrate on your wrist when you've been in active or sedentary for a period of time. You control the hours during which you'll receive these Activity Reminders (e.g. 9am to 6pm) and the interval of inactivity that will trigger your band to vibrate (15 minutes, 30 minutes, 45 minutes, 1 hour, etc.).
How does UP help me track my meals and eat smarter?
Creating a photo journal of what you eat has never been easier. Just use the app to snap quick photos of everything you eat. A few hours after every meal, the app will send you a push notification asking you to rate how you feel. Over time, you'll develop a comprehensive journal of all your meals. It'll help you discover which foods make you feel your best.

Challenges are fun health goals and competitions that inspire you to move more, sleep better and eat smarter. They're a great way to stay motivated and engage with friends.
